Legislators met to discuss efforts to rectify the decision, and found that despite increased funding to education, student achievement gaps in test scores, graduation rates, and college remediation rates remain.

On June 26 lawmakers heard a new joint report from Legislative Education Study Committee and Legislative Finance Committee staff revealing that almost 40 percent of students were chronically absent in the 2022-2023 school year. The report found that absenteeism contributes significantly to lower academic achievement.
